A flamboyant flowering evergreen shrub for acid conditions bearing loose, peony-form blooms in shades of vibrant rose pink. The medium-sized flowers reach 7.5-10cm (3-4in) wide and showcase crepe-like wavy petals with ruffled darker pink margins, reminiscent of a flamenco dancer’s skirt. Blooming prolifically through spring, the young leaves emerge with a bronze tint before maturing to dark glossy green. With its romantic ruffled blooms and vigorous growth habit, Camellia ‘Señorita’ brings a touch of Spanish flair when massed in borders or suitably large containers.

Garden care:

To prevent damage to the emerging buds and flowers protect from cold, dry winds and early morning sun. Water established plants in dry weather to prevent bud drop. Apply a balanced liquid fertiliser in mid-spring and again in June. Top-dress annually with shredded bark or well-rotted leaf mould. After flowering lightly trim or prune any branches that spoil the appearance of the plant.
